Sales Series Part 7 of 7: Commit
May 13, 2025
You've walked them all the way to the edge of a better future.
They trust you.
They see the path.
They want the transformation you can help them achieve.
But even the best offer can stall without a strong, safe next step.
The moment of commitment shouldn't be this nerve-wracking experience where you feel you have to resort to fancy NLP mental jujitsu to make the deal happen.
It’s simply the next, obvious, safe step.
A simple decision.
A decision to move forward.
A decision to believe in themselves.
A decision to let you lead.
π Quick Recap: The Benevolent Servant Leader™ Sales Framework
Here’s the full 6-phase trust-building sales process:

-
Prescribe — Lead them from confusion to clarity with a customized path
-
Offer — Present the next step with simplicity, proof, and purpose
-
Commit — (Today) Confirm alignment, secure agreement, and solidify action
Here's what I have for you in this issue:
π οΈ Sales Series Part 6 of 6—Commit: Secure next steps with clarity and confidence (no chasing, discounting, or pressure)
π οΈ The "Commit Phase" Prompt: To remove all doubt in your prospect's mind and make saying yes, the obvious, best next step
π Why This Phase Matters
The commitment phase isn’t a time for pressure. There's never a time for that, really.
The commit phase, what most call the "close" is really about partnership.
β
It transforms intent into action
β
It reinforces trust and momentum
β
It protects you from ghosting, stalling, or misalignment
Handled well, commitment feels like the natural outcome, not a high-stakes decision.
To finish up all of the work you've done with your prospect, I like to wrap things up and launch a new relationship with what I call:
πΆ The Three Ascending Commitments
Instead of pushing for one big “yes,” walk your prospect through three smaller, ascending commitments:
1οΈβ£ Commitment to the Roadmap
π¬ “Does this roadmap feel like the right path based on everything you’ve shared?”
This checks for alignment and gives them space to voice any hesitation early.
2οΈβ£ Commitment to the First Working Session
π¬ “Great. Let’s go ahead and get your first working session scheduled so we can keep momentum.”
This locks in a time, signals progress, and makes the relationship feel real.
3οΈβ£ Commitment to Payment Today
π¬ “To secure that time and officially get started, I’ll send over the paperwork and payment link now.”
By sequencing the commitment this way, payment becomes the logical conclusion—not a risky leap.
π§ Pro Tips
Lead, Don’t Chase
Assume confidence in their decision. If they hesitate, lean in with curiosity—not pressure.
Use Time Anchors
π “When we get started next week, you’ll have [insert specific early win] within the next 30 days.”
Reinforce Readiness
π “You’ve done the hard part—deciding what needs to change. Now we’re just building the structure to make it happen.”
π― This Week’s Action
Before your next call:
β
Write your version of the 3 Ascending Commitments (in your own words)
β
Prep your onboarding sequence (calendar link, paperwork, invoice)
β
Practice delivering this close with calm clarity and conviction
π The Big Takeaway
Your prospect doesn’t need more persuasion.
They need leadership and certainty.
The three ascending commitments give them just that—small steps that build to a confident yes.
No awkward pitch. No nervous follow-up. Just confident, forward momentum.
