Issue #2 — January 13, 2026

This morning, my dog was about twenty feet ahead of me. Walking into an open field on the farm as the sun came up and lit the frosty dormant grass like it was on fire.

I stopped. Just stood there for a second.

Not because of the view... though it was certainly beautiful.

I stopped because I realized I actually felt good. Not "pushing through" good. Not "coffee hasn't kicked in yet" good.

Actually, genuinely good. Clear. Rested.

And it hit me... this is the first time in weeks, maybe months, that I've woken up feeling like this.

Here's why that matters to you.

You can hit $30K months and still feel like garbage. You can land premium clients and be too exhausted to serve them well. You can build the business you dreamed about and have no energy left to enjoy the life it was supposed to create.

That's not prosperity. That's a high-income prison.

I've been there. Running on caffeine and willpower. Telling myself I'd rest when things slowed down. Knowing things never slow down.

But here's what I realized...

The work we do as consultants is demanding. Not physically demanding, like running a football into a wall of giants. But the mental load of holding a client's business in your head, seeing patterns they can't see, staying present in long conversations, making decisions that affect people's livelihoods...

That takes energy. Real energy. The kind you can't fake with another cup of coffee.

So I've started thinking of myself differently.

Not just as a business owner. Not just as a consultant.

But also as a business athlete.

Not in some chest-thumping, motivational poster way. Just a simple recognition: if I want to perform at the level my clients deserve, I have to treat my body and mind like the miraculous biological machines they are.

Think about it this way...

On January 19th, Indiana takes on Miami in the College Football Playoff National Championship. Every player on that field has been tracked, measured, and optimized. What they eat. When they sleep. How they recover.

Nothing is left to chance.

Those athletes didn't stumble into the championship. They're high-performance machines running on intentional systems.

So why do we think we can show up for clients running on a night of terrible sleep and whatever foil wrapped food truck thing we grabbed for lunch?

We can't.

Here's what I've been experimenting with.

For the last few weeks, I've tracked a few things. Nothing too crazy. Just intentional. What I eat. When I eat. How much I walk. What time I walk. And most importantly... how I sleep.

I use a sleep tracking app on my iPhone and Apple watch. It scores your sleep quality and compares you to other users. As of this morning, my sleep score is higher than 93% of male users in my age group.

That didn't happen by accident.

First, I cut caffeine. Haven't had any since December 20th. That alone made a difference. But it wasn't the whole picture.

Second, I started paying attention to when I walk. Not just whether I walk... but when.

Here's what happens.

An easy walk in the afternoon or early evening gently lowers cortisol, your stress hormone. At the same time, it activates your parasympathetic nervous system. That's the "rest and repair" branch. The one responsible for recovery.

But here's the part that surprised me...

The walk actually signals your brain that the active part of the day is ending. Body temperature starts dropping naturally. Melatonin starts rising on its own. No supplements. No tricks. Just your body doing what it's designed to do when you give it the right cues.

The rhythmic movement also clears out metabolic byproducts from your brain and muscles. Think of it like taking out the trash before bed. Less neural noise. Calmer system. Deeper sleep.

I've been doing a two-mile walk most days. Takes about 40 minutes. Nothing strenuous. Just movement and fresh air.
But here's what made the biggest difference.

Sunday night, I tried something new. About two hours before bed, I had an electrolyte drink with collagen peptides and a squeeze of lemon juice. Then I went for my usual walk.

That night, I had the best sleep I've had in months. Maybe longer.

I woke up Monday morning feeling like a different person. Clear-headed. Energized. Ready.

Now, I'm not saying this exact combination will work for you. Bodies are different.

But I am saying this: the timing and quality of what you put in your body matters. And most of us aren't paying attention.

Wealth is what you accumulate. Prosperity is how you live.

And how you live includes how you feel when you wake up. How sharp your mind is when a client needs your best thinking. How much energy you have at the end of the day for the people who matter most.

None of that happens by accident. Elite athletes don't wing it.

Neither should we.

That last one matters more than most people realize. The longer the gap between your last meal and sleep, the more your body can focus on repair and restoration instead of digestion. You're not asking it to do two jobs at once.

You don't need an app. A notebook works fine. The point isn't perfect data... it's noticing patterns you've been blind to.
